VIRTUAL SLIDE VIEWING:
Aperio Technologies provides a free software program called ImageScope for viewing virtual slides. Please note that ImageScope only works on Windows, not MacOS. This program allows you to view and synchronize multiple slides, use additional digital magnification, annotate slides, etc. If you wish to view the virtual slides using ImageScope rather than the web, follow these steps:
- To download ImageScope onto your computer, go to the Aperio website (http://www.aperio.com) and click on the "Get Aperio ImageScope" icon at the bottom right corner of the page. Fill in the registration information and follow the download instructions.
- Once you have installed ImageScope, return to your virtual slide website. Now when you click on a thumbnail to open a slide, you will be asked to Open or Save a file called DigitalSlides.sis. Click Open and the slide will open in ImageScope. If you wish to open and compare two slides, select the relevant checkboxes in front of the image thumbnails on the virtual slide website and click "View Images."
- In ImageScope, you will see the slide thumbnail in the sidebar on the left, and also in the top right corner of the image. To enter full screen mode, click on the blue "toggle full-screen mode" icon in the center area of the icon row below the menu bar. Magnification can be adusted using the numbered buttons or slider, and you can click within the thumbnail in the upper right corner to change your position within the slide, or use the arrows that appear when you move your mouse to the edges of the image. There are additional icons that allow you to show/hide the thumbnail and digital magnifier, synchronize, annotate, draw a ruler, etc. Full instructions for using ImageScope are available under the Help menu.
